AI Innovation and Inclusion Initiative (A4I) is a partnership between Microsoft and IIIT-B, collaborating with non-profit partners to harness AI for solving real-world challenges in education, healthcare, accessibility, and agriculture. A4I evolves innovations into open-source Digital Public Goods (DPGs) that are deployable at scale, fostering a strong AI innovation ecosystem for social impact. 

Role Overview

We are looking for an AI Engineer to help design, build, and improve agentic AI systems for live, high-impact settings. The role combines hands-on engineering with thoughtful experimentation across LLMs, retrieval pipelines, multimodal inputs, and application integration. You will work closely with architects, researchers, and partner teams to turn promising ideas into reliable systems that can be deployed in the real world.

What You Will Do

• Build and improve agentic AI workflows using frameworks such as LangGraph, LlamaIndex, AutoGen, CrewAI, Semantic Kernel, or similar tools. 
• Develop LLM and RAG pipelines, including retrieval design, prompt refinement, evaluation, and response quality improvement across multilingual and multimodal use cases. 
• Integrate AI services with APIs, databases, vector stores, and cloud platforms to support robust end-to-end solutions. 
• Contribute to data pipelines that work across text, documents, images, and audio, including preprocessing, translation, and structured extraction where needed. 
• Write clean, production-quality Python code, support deployment workflows, and help improve observability, testing, and reliability. 
• Collaborate with researchers, engineers, and partner organizations, and communicate technical choices clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. 

Required Qualifications 

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, AI/ML, Data Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent hands-on experience. 
• 3 to 5 years of software engineering experience, including work on AI-enabled products or platforms. 
• Strong Python skills, including APIs, testing, version control, and maintainable application development. 
• Hands-on experience with LLMs, retrieval-augmented generation, vector stores, and modern agentic or orchestration frameworks. 
• Comfort working across cloud environments, containerized deployments, and collaborative engineering workflows. 
• Ability to work effectively in cross-functional teams and translate technical ideas into practical implementation. 

Preferred Qualifications 

• Experience with multilingual or Indian language AI workloads, including translation, ASR, TTS, or multimodal processing. 
• Familiarity with evaluation and observability tools such as LangSmith, RAGAS, TruLens, MLflow, or similar platforms. 
• Exposure to graph databases, knowledge graphs, or production-grade AI integration patterns on Azure, AWS, or GCP. 
• Experience in social impact, public sector, accessibility, or other resource-constrained deployment contexts. 
• Open-source contributions, technical writing, or demonstrable shipped work through GitHub or similar portfolios.
