About A4I Lab 

AI Innovation and Inclusion Initiative (A4I) is a partnership between Microsoft and IIIT-B, collaborating with non-profit partners to harness AI for solving real-world challenges in education, healthcare, accessibility, and agriculture. A4I evolves innovations into open-source Digital Public Goods (DPGs) that are deployable at scale, fostering a strong AI innovation ecosystem for social impact. 

Role Overview 

We are looking for an AI Infrastructure Engineer to build and manage the cloud foundation for A4I’s AI platforms. This role is suited to someone who enjoys taking ownership of infrastructure, automation, reliability, and cost discipline across multiple live applications. You will work closely with AI engineers and architects to ensure that production systems are secure, scalable, observable, and ready for sustained use in real-world social impact deployments. 

What You Will Be Doing 

• Design, provision, and manage cloud infrastructure on Azure, with working familiarity across AWS and GCP where relevant. 
• Build reproducible, multi-environment infrastructure using Terraform, Ansible, and Git-based deployment practices. 
• Deploy and operate containerised AI and application workloads using Docker, Kubernetes, and related managed services. 
• Maintain CI/CD and MLOps workflows that support reliable releases, rollback paths, monitoring, and safe change management. 
• Design backup, restoration, and disaster recovery processes across databases, stateful services, and production environments. 
• Strengthen observability, security, edge delivery, and cost governance across the A4I platform portfolio. 

Required Qualifications 

• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent demonstrated expertise. 
• 4 to 6 years of experience in cloud infrastructure, platform engineering, or DevOps, including support for live production systems. 
• Hands-on Azure experience across compute, networking, storage, identity, and container services. 
• Strong experience with Infrastructure as Code, container orchestration, CI/CD, and production automation using Python or Bash. 
• Practical experience with observability, security controls, backup strategy, and disaster recovery planning. 
• Ability to manage infrastructure for multiple applications and work closely with engineering teams on architecture and operational decisions. 

Preferred Qualifications 

• Experience supporting AI and ML workloads such as vector stores, embedding pipelines, model endpoints, or RAG backends in production. 
• Familiarity with Azure-specific AI services, Cloudflare, edge security, or multilingual AI service infrastructure. 
• Experience in open-source Digital Public Goods, multi-tenant environments, or low-connectivity deployment settings. 
• Contributions to reusable infrastructure tooling, platform frameworks, or open-source DevOps assets. 
• Demonstrated experience in cloud cost optimisation and operational governance across a shared platform environment.
